So who the hell is this guy, anyway?

Darren Street, pleased to meet you!
I first set my hands on a microphone way back in 1994. I was very lucky in the early days to be a part of the sound team at the Royal Albert Hall. I guess you could say I cut my teeth working on the sound crew there. I was extremely lucky, because at that time I got to work with and learn from some of the best sound engineers in the business.

"A Little known fact is that Darren started his career as my number 2 sound at the Royal Albert Hall some 25 years ago, cutting his teeth with a wide range of productions from classical, contemporary/musical to spoken word. He learned his craft with us before blossoming and creating his own unique style and direction."

Matthew Barden - Former Principal Sound Engineer - Royal  Albert Hall

It was an amazing time, we did so many shows there from rock to pop, classical and everything in-between. Over the following years I took that knowledge I had gained there and carved out a career as a sound engineer in my own right.

I spent many years as principal engineer on countless live shows across the UK, Europe and beyond.
It was during this time that I gained an in-depth knowledge of the human voice, spending literally thousands of hours over the years mixing and producing voices.

It's great to have such an extensive career in sound under my belt, as nowadays I am a voice coach and a consultant on voice recording techniques, home studios and everything VO. Check out my Academy page for training and more info.

In the 2000's I took a sabbatical from my career as a sound engineer to follow my passion for acting. I studied acting and voice at drama school in London for two years, graduating in 2003. In the years that followed I went mainly into musical theatre, taking leads in wonderful shows such as Sondheim's Follies, Sweeney Todd and A Little Night Music. It was also around this time that I started working as a voiceover artist. It was the perfect career path for me, combining my sound engineering/recording skills with my drama school training in acting, voice and singing.

More recently I designed and built the recording space I work at now – The Voice Reel Studio.

For me this is a dream come true, and something I am very proud of.
It allows me to utilise all the skills I have gained over my career to help others record the best work possible. I'd love to chat with you about your requirements and help you achieve your goals in voice acting or singing.
