So... to speak!

"It was an absolute pleasure to work with Voiceover Guru Darren Street on my corporate read.

There is always something new to be learned!"

Let's take a look at a few of the things you should consider first when you are planning your voiceover reels.

What types of VO reels will I need?

Typically, a voiceover agent will want to have Commercial, Narrative and Gaming reels to promote you, and these will also be what you need to self promote via profile pages on p2p sites such as Mandy. There are many different areas of the voice industry but for now let's look at the “big four”.

commercial

A sharp mix of six TV and radio commercials mixed with royalty free music and effects.

Audio book narration

A demo to showcase your narrative skills in storytelling.

Once you book a voice reel package, I can guide you as to what to look for script-wise. I can also help with where to find script inspiration. I can even write new scripts just for you if needed, all included in the package price. Your voice reel will be unique to you, I never re-use scripts that will have been heard on other artist's demos, so you will always have a fresh dynamic reel.

Once we have decided on your scripts, if you already have voiceover experience you may want to go straight to the record session.  That's absolutely fine, more on that later.  If you are a beginner to the industry, or you would like some coaching before the record date, I offer one-hour 1-1 Zoom consulting sessions where we can chat about your chosen scripts (and anything else to do with the voice industry, so prepare those questions!) you'll get a chance to read them live and I can give you direction and coaching so you'll know what you need to work on before the day.  Please see packages for more details.

What to expect at a typical voiceover recording session.

Sessions typically last around three hours, once you arrive we'll sit down over a cuppa and go through your scripts, I'll explain more about how the session runs and we'll practice read your scripts. I don't just throw you in front of a microphone and say go (whuuut!?) we'll take our time and make sure you are super-comfortable with each read in terms of pace and feel, so by the time you do get in the booth you are confident, relaxed and ready to record some great voice work. During the session I will direct you as needed and coach you along so we really do get the absolute best out of you on the day, which makes for cracking final reel.
